Artificial Intelligence as a Catalyst for Sustainable Development
摘要
The urgent need for sustainable development in the face of evolving global challenges has spurred scientists and researchers to develop cutting-edge technological solutions. Artificial Intelligence (AI) stands out, demonstrating significant potential in addressing critical environmental and societal needs. This chapter explores how contemporary AI applications advance the 17 United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Employing an exploratory research method, it draws on secondary information from published articles and international organization websites. Findings indicate that various AI tools are already being utilized to progress the SDGs. For instance, AI algorithms are crucial in optimizing renewable energy systems and enhancing the efficiency of a smart grid. Innovations like GraphCast and MetNet-3 transform weather forecasting, which is vital for disaster preparedness and resource management, while precision agriculture leverages AI to optimize crop yields and minimize environmental impact. Ultimately, AI has unlocked new possibilities for tackling SDG challenges, playing a transformative role in shaping our world. To fully harness this potential, regulatory bodies must establish a supportive framework for AI’s ethical and innovative use.
