Case Study on the Implementation of the Policies for Poverty Alleviation Relocation in Guizhou Province

Guizhou Province, which is situated in southwestern China, is one of the main battlefields for the national poverty alleviation initiative. Its poverty-stricken counties account for 75% of the total, among which 50 are identified as key counties for the national poverty alleviation through development as well as 16 contiguous poverty-stricken areas. Since 2015, Guizhou Province has made important achievements in the implementation of the policies for poverty alleviation relocation and the follow-up support programs, ranking high among peer provinces in China in terms of achievements. Therefore, research team of the School of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development at Renmin University of China, conducted an in-depth research on the follow-up support for poverty alleviation relocation in Guizhou Province from July 23 to July 31, 2020. They also conducted case interviews and questionnaire surveys in Shuicheng County in Liupanshui City and Weining County in Bijie City. This chapter focuses on the main practices and achievements in three aspects of the follow-up support programs: community integration of the relocated residents, industry, and employment, and provides in-depth analysis of typical cases.
