Reflections on Care Support Policies for Older Adults Living Alone from an Ethics of Aging Perspective

Building on the preceding analysis, this chapter takes the lens of geriatric ethics to examine the effectiveness and limitations of existing care support policies for older adults. Although the Japanese government has implemented multiple support initiatives and established a relatively mature support system for an aging society aimed at improving older adults’ quality of life and their social integration, significant challenges remain, including inadequacies in addressing the complex care needs associated with voluntary and involuntary social isolation, as well as insufficient progress in developing concrete implementation procedures.
