Conceptual Definitions and Literature Review

This chapter reviews relevant domestic and international literature. It begins by analyzing the social isolation of older adults through the perspective of cultural traditions and historical foundations of Japanese care concepts. It then examines the issue of autonomous choice in solitary living among older adults from the ethics of aging. Subsequently, it explores the causes, influencing factors, and current social support policies related to loneliness and social isolation among older adults. This review aims to provide an understanding of aging issues and care support policies across diverse cultural contexts.
