Induction of Somatic Embryos, Their Maturation, and Regeneration in Anti-aging Medicinal Plants
摘要
Somatic embryogenesis is a type of plant tissue culture that regenerates plants by developing embryos from somatic or asexual plant embryos in vitro. There are two types of somatic embryogenesis: direct somatic embryogenesis (DSE) and indirect somatic embryogenesis (ISE). In DSE, embryos form directly on the surface of the original explant, whereas ISE requires the initial formation of a callus from which somatic embryos will be regenerated. This chapter examines various factors involved in embryogenesis and describes the effects of multiple plant growth regulators and additives on the induction, histodifferentiation, maturation, germination, and conversion into plantlets of somatic embryos, whether via DSE or ISE. Additionally, we describe examples of cellular-level changes that occur during somatic embryogenesis in various medicinal plants with potential anti-aging properties. Scientific research demonstrates that somatic embryogenesis is a valuable tool in plant biotechnology, serving as a plant regeneration technique with applications in mass micropropagation, synthetic seed production, germplasm conservation, genetic transformation, protoplast fusion, in vitro mutagenesis, and the breeding of medicinal plants. Furthermore, somatic embryogenesis represents a sustainable alternative to maximize the potential of medicinal plants.
