Even though Zhang Shenfu張申府 (1893–1986) referred to his philosophy in different ways, and even though people have already referred to his philosophy as an “analytical materialism” (jiexifa de xinweiwulun解析法的新唯物論), this does not mean that the question of how to classify his philosophy is already solved. Actually, some explanations and definitions (including Zhang Shenfu’s own) are quite limited. More recent investigations into Zhang Shenfu’s philosophy begin from different aspects and even those with a relatively larger perspective are still nevertheless a bit too concise. Therefore, it is necessary to rethink the definition of Zhang Shenfu’s philosophy.
