Technology in the Anthropocene: Relationship and Symbiosis

In the Anthropocene, a highly complex two-way relationship has formed between humans and technology. This article begins by examining the academic attitudes towards Artificial Intelligence, a representative emerging technology, which serves as a typical example of the “duality” of technology. Behind this duality lies the debate and divergence between Effective Accelerationism and Decelerationism. Furthermore, this article explores the evolution of the human–technology relationship through theories such as organ projection, Heidegger’s “Gestell” and technological realism, emphasizing the emergence of a new symbiotic relationship between humans and technology. The article provides an in-depth discussion of the potential forms of symbiosis between humans and technology, including Mutualism, Commensalism, Parasitism and Amensalism, and identifies Mutualism as the ideal symbiotic state we strive for. This article concludes that the cyborg, as an example of human–machine integration, provides a potential pathway for achieving mutualistic symbiosis.
