摘要

Frontal lobe is the largest lobe of the brain. Its volume and weight account for 1/3–1/2 of the whole brain. Frontal lobe epilepsy is the second most common drug-resistant epilepsy (also known as drug refractory epilepsy), second to temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), and accounting for 20%–30% of drug refractory epilepsy patients that need surgical treatment. Knowledge on the functions and anatomy of frontal lobe is crucial for understanding of frontal lobe seizures. Conventionally, the frontal lobe is divided into lateral frontal lobe, medial frontal lobe, and orbitofrontal lobe according to the origin site of frontal lobe epileptic seizures. The lateral frontal lobe consists of motor cortex (MC), premotor cortex (PMC), prefrontal lobe; the medial frontal lobe consists of primary motor cortex area, supplementary motor area (SMA), anterior cingutate cortex (ACC), and prefrontal lobe. Primary motor cortical area and SMA are among the most widely researched in studies of medial frontal lobe epilepsy.
