A Future Worth Building Together: Now Is the Time to Act

The transition towards regeneration is a collective challenge for humankind. It requires the transformation of every aspect of modern society. This book has offered tangible, practical and holistic guidance on what the built environment industry can do within this larger movement towards regeneration. This final chapter summarises the intent and contribution of this book through three provocative questions. Firstly, what needs to change from our current processes, practices and way of thinking to enable the transition to regenerative built environments? Secondly, what gives us hope that a healthy, resilient and thriving future is still possible? Thirdly, where can practitioners start their journey towards working regeneratively and delivering projects that are fundamentally good for everyone and all life? This chapter is a call to action for the built environment to start working regeneratively and to make this the norm and not the exception. It concludes with a cautionary tale of two pathways for our future to demonstrate that sustainability is not just about what targets we set, but how we get there.
