Assessing the Influence of Soil-Structure Interaction on the Seismic Behaviour of a High-Rise Structure in Northeast India
摘要
This research paper investigates the impact of Soil-Structure Interaction (SSI) on a 27-storey reinforced concrete building with shear walls located in Northeast India—an area categorized within Seismic Zone-V. The structure supported by deep foundations is subjected to significant dynamic forces during seismic events. The primary objective of this study is to analyse how local soil conditions affect the structural response of the structure by utilizing advanced SSI modelling techniques in SAP2000®. The study involves conducting detailed time history and P-delta analyses to evaluate the dynamic behaviour of the structure under real-world earthquake loading conditions. Through a comparative analysis of fixed-base and flexible-base models, this research demonstrates the crucial role of SSI in altering stress distribution and the overall performance of the structure. The results show significant differences between the models with the flexible-based model experiencing increased stress levels and greater deformations due to soil flexibility. This underscores the necessity of accounting for SSI in the structural design of high-rise buildings particularly in seismically active regions like Northeast India. The findings provide essential insights for structural engineers highlighting the importance of incorporating SSI effects in both the design and analysis stages to enhance the safety and resilience of high-rise structures.
