Policy and Regulation: Encouraging Water Conservation in the Hospitality Industry
摘要
The hospitality industry can be a powerful force for positive change in the face of the national water crisis. This chapter explores how policy and regulation can incentivize and enforce water conservation practices. The chapter acknowledges the significant cost savings, enhanced sustainability image, and positive public perception associated with water conservation efforts by the industry. However, it emphasizes the need for a national approach. This chapter discusses how the widespread adoption of water-saving technologies across the hospitality sector can significantly reduce national water consumption. Potential policy solutions such as mandatory smart water metering and data-driven strategies for hotels and restaurants would greatly contribute to water conservation. The chapter will also examine existing policies and highlight the importance of collaboration between policymakers, industry leaders, and environmental organizations to create a regulatory framework that encourages sustainable water management practices within the hospitality sector.
