Water scarcity poses a serious threat to sustainable development in emerging economies. This chapter examines the issue from the perspective of the hospitality industry, a sector with intensive freshwater demand. Using India as a representative case, it highlights how hotels and restaurants often consume several times more water than local households, aggravating stress on limited resources. The discussion links everyday practices such as kitchen use, guest facilities, and landscaping to large-scale depletion and social imbalance. Emphasis is placed on responsible water management through efficient technologies, graywater reuse, staff training, and guest engagement. The chapter concludes that sustainable water stewardship within the hospitality sector is essential for ensuring both operational resilience and the long-term well-being of water-stressed communities.
