Measuring the Coordination of the Urban Landscape with the Historical District Renewal Process
摘要
This study employs urban typology and quantitative analysis to examine the coordination within the urban renewal process, using Qingdao, a coastal city in China, as a case study. First, the evolution of residential building types is delineated using the urban typology method, identifying the primary reasons for coordination prior to 2003. Second, focusing on the emergence of high-rise residential buildings after 2003, the study introduces quantitative indices—namely, a Complexity Index and a Proximity Index—to reveal the impact of high-rise building bulk and their plan layout on coordination. Finally, based on the investigation, the study proposes suggestions for urban planning and design, including small-scale implementation strategies and potential quantitative control technologies.
