Utilization of Construction and Demolished Waste (CDW) and Steel Slag in Concrete

Due to the environmental issues related to the removal of these wastes, the use of construction and demolition waste (CDW) and steel slag in concrete has received a lot of focus lately. This study provides a thorough knowledge on the use of CDW and steel slag in concrete as partial substitutes for coarse aggregate and fine aggregate. The mechanical behaviour of concrete incorporating CDW and steel slag is summarized in this article. The CDW is partially replaced as 5, 10, 15, and 20% for coarse aggregate and steel slag is partially replaced by 10, 20, 30, and 40% for fine aggregate. The results demonstrated that partial replacement of CDW as 15% and steel slag as 30% for coarse aggregate and fine aggregate exhibit better performance compared to conventional concrete. For the above optimum percentage, the compressive strength of the concrete is improved by 7.2%, cracking resistance of the concrete is improved by 42.2% and modulus of rupture of the concrete is improved by 78.18%. The concrete made by CDW and steel slag is suitable for making flexural member in framed structure.
