Assessment of Soil Properties and Spatial Variability Using GIS

Statistical analytical methods are frequently utilized in correlation techniques and the assessment of soil spatial trends. Euclidean clusters, scatter plots, correlation matrices, and inverse distance weights demonstrate superior statistical characteristics compared to conventional methods, and the distribution of soil property experiments is leveraged to understand engineering attributes and ascertain their appropriateness for preliminary engineering construction tasks. The experimental analysis underscored the distinctive features of statistical evaluations. In this investigation, three Mandals in Medak District, Telangana State, were scrutinized to pinpoint optimal sites for civil engineering initiatives. The Mandals include Narsingh Mandal, Shankarampet Mandal, and Chegunta Mandal. These three mandals are home to fertile agricultural lands; as a result, pinpointing suitable source soils with the right geotechnical attributes proves to be a challenge. Tests such as liquid limit, plastic limit, compaction properties, particle size distribution, and Proctor compaction are prioritized for examination. The soil outcomes were illustrated on thematic maps through the use of inverse distance weighting (IDW) and reclassification methods. These maps act as effective tools for the swift identification of source locations. The findings of this study indicate that Narsingh Mandal and Shankarampet Mandal are both viable for engineering activities, while certain areas within the remaining Mandal are deemed unsuitable for construction. It is advisable for all villages and mandals to conduct these analyses to streamline time and costs while enhancing safety.
