摘要

Maternal health and nutrition are fundamental determinants of fetal development and long-term health. The period from conception through the first 1000 days is critical for shaping future health outcomes and is highly influenced by nutrition. Nutritional imbalances, including deficiencies or excesses in essential macronutrients and/or micronutrients, contribute significantly to adverse outcomes such as low birthweight and congenital anomalies. Maternal conditions, such as gestational diabetes, hypertension, and mental health disorders, can adversely influence fetal growth, resulting in complications like intrauterine growth restriction, preterm birth, and developmental delays. Early detection and management of maternal conditions with continuous healthcare support are essential for positive pregnancy outcomes. Public health interventions targeting maternal health, including national programs such as Anemia Mukt Bharat, Poshan Abhiyaan, and so many more throughout life-course, rolled out by the Government of India, play a critical role in addressing these issues. These programs focus on improving nutritional intake, providing counseling, and integrating quality ANC services to optimize maternal health and birth outcomes. The proposed N-O-U-R-I-S-H (nutrition education, optimize community engagement, utilize technology, reinforce healthy diets, support nurturing environment, holistic health interventions) framework provides a comprehensive, evidence-based design to address the multifaceted challenges in maternal and child nutrition. Such efforts are crucial for ensuring healthier pregnancies and better long-term health outcomes for both mothers and their children.
