Drilling Parameter Investigation of TC4 Titanium Thin Wall Small Size Holes

In order to improve the drilling quality of titanium alloy structures, this paper conducted a study on the drilling process parameters of TC4 titanium alloy thin-walled structures. A drilling process experiment was conducted. Here, a 2.6mm diameter small hole was considered, and the influences of the drilling feed rate and cutting speed on drilling quality were analyzed. Results show that the drilling resistance increases with the increase of feed rates. At a given feed rate, the drilling resistance decreases with the cutting speed increasing. The minimum average flanging height of the hole exit was observed at the median feed rates. The higher the cutting speed, the lower the average flanging height of the hole exit. The drilling resistance-time response is unstable corresponding to the original holes, and the tool wear is obvious. The drilling diameter error was also obvious. As the number of drilling holes increases, the drilling resistance-time response is stable, and the wear of the front cutting surface increases little. a stable wear stage of the drill bit occurs. The drilling diameter error is extremely small.
