Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Business Practices
摘要
Indonesia’s cultural diversity presents unique opportunities to align heritage with sustainable business practices. This chapter examines how cultural assets can be integrated into modern, eco-conscious business models, using batik as an example of how tradition can be transformed into sustainable ventures. This transformation involves the use of eco-friendly materials, waste reduction, and support for artisans. Employing a qualitative approach, the study combines literature reviews and case studies of heritage-based businesses, supplemented by interviews with entrepreneurs, production observations, and policy analysis. The findings suggest that community-driven enterprises, grounded in local wisdom such as gotong royong (cooperation), foster inclusivity and long-term sustainability. These values contribute to business models that strike a balance between profit and social and environmental responsibility. Heritage-based businesses not only preserve traditions but also promote eco-tourism, create jobs, stimulate local economies, and protect fragile ecosystems. The case studies illustrate how innovation and tradition can coexist, providing a replicable model for other regions. Ultimately, cultural heritage emerges as both a source of identity and a catalyst for sustainable development. By aligning traditional knowledge with modern sustainability principles, Indonesia has the potential to lead the world in ethical, environmentally conscious business practices, thereby strengthening resilience and cultural identity in a changing world.
