This chapter explores the interconnected relationship between the One Health approach, Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) on ensuring healthy lives and well-being, and the integral role of generic drugs in shaping global healthcare. The concept of One Health emphasizes the interdependence of human, animal, and environmental health. In this context, SDG 3 seeks to achieve universal health coverage, promoting well-being for all through access to essential medicines and healthcare services. Generic drugs play a crucial role in realizing the objectives of both One Health and SDG 3. As cost-effective alternatives to brand-name medications, generic drugs enhance accessibility to essential treatments for both human and animal populations. Their affordability aligns with the principles of SDG 3, contributing to universal health coverage by addressing financial barriers to healthcare access. Furthermore, the use of generic drugs supports sustainable healthcare practices, emphasizing responsible resource utilization and long-term health outcomes. In this context, the roles of generics in achieving the One Health goal, presenting both global & Indian perspectives, are discussed, with a specific emphasis on the contributions of CSIR. Furthermore, the chapter outlines the way forward, including policy frameworks.

摘要
