Long-Term Care for the Aged Population the Case of Bangladesh
摘要
Bangladesh needs to emphasize taking care of its aging population, by focusing on improving its primary health care, distribution of assets and properties. Recent advancements in health facilities accompanied by huge costs have brought the issues of health insurance into focus. To augment protection of older persons, Bangladesh has initiated “Universal Pension Scheme”, a pathway to self-sustained retirement for citizens. The growing trend towards nuclear families, or where children living abroad has put elderly parents in a dilemma and old care homes have become a necessity; but due to the social stigma surrounding old homes, the challenging task may be to find people to accommodate in the care center by making it cost effective. Alternatively, going for professional elderly care may work where old parents or anyone who needs support don’t have to leave home as they can get professional elderly care at home. To cater to the needs of the aging population of Bangladesh, the policymakers and other stakeholders should consider more financing in the health care, innovation of novel products, effective regulation, less interruptions in supply chain, evaluation and monitor quality, can build a foundation for a holistic health care system to support the aging population and maximize the years Bangladeshis spend in good health and social security.
