A system of international radiation protection is developed and in place to manage the risks associated with exposure to ionizing radiation, ensuring safety for both people and the environment as illustrated in Fig. 8.1. This system is based on fundamental principles and guidelines developed by several international organizations, primarily the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP, 2025a) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA, 2025a).
