Da Lat, a highland city in Vietnam renowned for its unique climate and preserved colonial heritage, is undergoing rapid urbanization, driven by a growing tourism industry and modern architectural developments. This shift transforms the city’s heritage landscape and alters its character, highlighting the need for heritage conservation amidst urban change. This study examines the visual attractiveness of colonial buildings compared to contemporary structures from various viewpoints around Xuan Huong Lake. The research evaluates the perceptions of tourists, immigrants, and locals through field mapping, photo analysis, online surveys, and interviews. Findings highlight the key visual elements that contribute to the appeal of these heritage and landscape structures, influenced by visitor demographics and modes of transport. The study underscores the potential for enhancing landscape views in heritage-rich areas and advocates for sustainable development strategies that balance heritage conservation with the needs of a growing city.
