Rural and remote areas have recently gained relevance in sustainable development efforts. Due to the lack of studies in these contexts, many researchers emphasized the need to find long-term solutions to increase living standards. In fact, despite many challenges in these settings, the sustainable development approach is needed to satisfy pressing needs and address inequality gaps. A quantitative study was conducted through an online survey. The results show that multiple factors are perceived to be significant and a determinant for sustainable development in remote and rural regions. However, the results did not support the influence of socio-cultural aspects in these contexts. Technology is expected to play a significant role in promoting sustainable practices, and thus it might be perceived as challenging for certain local people, especially those who have limited exposure to technology. The study offers insight into these settings, from a socio-technical and economic perspective in line with the Saudi Vision 2030.

摘要
