Human Body Structure and Muscle Characteristics

  • Sadao Kawamura

摘要

To consider Aikido mechanically, we must understand the human musculoskeletal system. The human body’s structure is unique. As a result of evolution, we began walking upright on two legs and using our hands to grasp and manipulate objects such as food. The musculoskeletal apparatus that generates force is believed to have evolved into a complex form with distinctive characteristics. Can we use these characteristics to disable a strong opponent efficiently, using minimal muscular effort by exploiting body mechanics? In this chapter, we address that question using analytical methods drawn from robotics. First, several analytical methods used in robotics are described. We then attempt to explain Aikido techniques scientifically using those methods.
