Overview of Bilingual Acquisition of Oracy in Young Learners
摘要
Bilingual children’s language oracy development is a pivotal aspect of their dual language learning journey and has profound implications on their subsequent academic success and overall well-being. Therefore, it becomes imperative for language programs aimed at primary school students to offer adept instruction, fostering the growth of their dual language oracy skills. This review consolidates recent research findings on oracy acquisition in early bilingual education programs, delving into theoretical frameworks and assessing the efficacy of such initiatives in enhancing bilingual children’s listening and speaking abilities. The synthesis explores instructional methodologies, such as translanguaging, proven to be efficacious in nurturing early oracy skills. As the chapter concludes, it outlines potential avenues for future research, directing attention towards a need for further understanding of the dynamics of bilingual oracy acquisition in young learners.
