Environmental Stewardship and Collective Responsibility
摘要
The Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh presents several challenges that need to be overcome, especially the issue of damage to the local environment. Due to the failure of regional nation-state mechanisms to address this issue, Bangladesh is bearing the brunt of looking after and protecting these refugees from Myanmar. This chapter contends that the international community must share this effort, especially the financial, logistical, and technical requirements for implementing sustainable and rights-based solutions that the Rohingya clearly need. By sharing the costs, the international community can demonstrate its commitment to human rights, environmental protection and stewardship, and sustainable or viable solutions that benefit both the Rohingya refugees and Bangladesh in the long-term. The chapter begins by describing the burden-sharing literature, before discussing what burden-sharing means in the context of Bangladesh.
