This introductory chapter sets the conceptual and analytical foundations for understanding the evolving interplay between geo-politics and geo-economics in the foreign policy of Pakistan. It outlines the historical context of Pakistan’s external engagements, tracing the transition from a predominantly security-driven geopolitical orientation toward an increasingly articulated geo-economic vision in the post-2008 period. The chapter defines the central problem of the study, establishes its research questions and objectives, and explains the theoretical framework grounded in neo-liberalism and complex interdependence.
