Obesity is a state of accumulated fat and is a risk factor for diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. The enlargement of adipocytes associated with obesity leads to impairments in cell function. The role of glycans in adipocytes is still largely unknown, but it has been reported that glycan modifications such as α2,6 sialic acid [1], GM3 ganglioside [2], O-GlcNAc [3], and O-GalNAc type glycans [4] are involved in the enlargement and differentiation of adipocytes and the obesity of individuals. In recent years, it has been reported that abnormalities in the lipid quality control mechanism by UGGT2, a phosphatidyl glucoside biosynthetic enzyme, are related to obesity [5].
