Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Sulfated Mucin
摘要
Intestinal mucin secreted from goblet cells forms a mucus layer, and acts as a mucosal barrier separating intestinal epithelial cells and intestinal bacteria. Recent studies on the structure and function of mucin glycans have revealed that sulfation of O-linked glycans on intestinal mucin is important for the mucosal barrier function, which maintains intestinal homeostasis and protects against inflammatory bowel diseases.
