In the present volume, we follow the methodological rules of “cliophysics.” The term used for this new field is a neologism whose origin and meaning were already explained at the beginning of volume 1. However, because the readers of volume 2 may not have in mind the explanations given earlier, it may be useful to recall them here. As we use examples which are not the same as in volume 1, the present section can be seen as complementing what was said earlier.
