Challenges and Opportunities

Skin cancer is still a major global health concern, especially photocarcinogenesis, which is a result of prolonged exposure to sunlight. Even with the improvements in diagnostic technologies and available treatments, effective disease management is still hampered by a number of challenges. The discovery of effective treatments for aggressive and uncommon subtypes of skin cancer, the rising rate of resistance to current treatments, and the requirement for better long-term patient adherence are some of the major issues facing modern skin cancer therapy today. In this chapter, we discuss the psychological effects of skin cancer and the significance of improving quality of life through digital health tools and supportive care. In view of the enhanced clinical approvals and faster clinical development of therapeutic drugs, the need of interdisciplinary cooperation of industry, academic and regulatory bodies is emphasized. Lastly, time integrative care models, personalized medicine and molecular diagnostics as new possibilities for the further. The chapter also highlights the important of developing the effective treatments, addressing resistances of working therapies and of improving the patient adherence and quality of life.
