Diagnosis and Treatment of Metastatic Photocarcinoma
摘要
Skin cancer begins with the abnormal proliferation of skin cells, which can extend to other organs of the body. With the trend of rising cases of skin cancer, dermatologists may have to deal with more aggressive tumors that grow faster and may need imaging procedures and assessment to improve the patient’s care and examination. However, metastatic photocarcinoma has a dismal prognosis and is only diagnosed late, after metastases have occurred. Therefore, identifying conditions early is essential for effectively managing treatment. Besides enhancing patient care, understanding various diagnoses and treatments will enable the use of cost-efficient resources. The chapter provides a current update on the imaging tools relevant to cancer, including CT scans, PET-CT scans, MRI scans, and confocal microscopy. It covers several standard diagnostic approaches for metastatic melanoma (MM), including incisional biopsies, fine needle aspiration biopsies, and cytology. Additionally, it discusses typical treatments like surgical management, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and radiation therapy.
