Producing more food to feed a rapidly growing population while available land and resources continue to shrink is one of the greatest challenges that humanity faces today. Compounding this problem is productivity loss due to infestations, such as those caused by viruses targeting vegetables. Despite the availability of various methods for managing vegetable viruses, a pressing and ongoing need remains to develop effective strategies for virus management. The ability of viruses to quickly mutate necessitates a rapid response from a diverse arsenal of antivirals. Among the interventions available, using peptides is a promising approach due to the versatility and efficacy of this type of biomolecule. This chapter presents recent innovations in using peptides to manage viral infections in vegetables. Challenges and issues hindering the broader implementation of peptide-based interventions are also discussed. The chapter concludes by highlighting commercially promising examples of peptide-based interventions.

摘要
