A Holistic Analysis of Biosecurity Challenges and Regional Vulnerabilities in the Middle East at the Digital Frontier of Cyberbiosecurity
摘要
This chapter will explore the changing landscape of biosecurity, analyzing how modern health threats, rapid scientific advancements, and expanding digital connectivity are transforming the ways in which the world prepares for and responds to biological challenges. Historical developments are considered alongside current factors such as globalization, climate change, and biotechnology, all of which increase vulnerabilities to pandemics and bioterrorism. The section on Middle Eastern perspective will examine how regional instability, gaps in healthcare infrastructure, and limited biosafety capacity heighten biological risks. It will emphasize the urgent need for stronger surveillance systems, better regulatory enforcement, and capacity-building to enhance resilience against both biological and cyber threats. Additionally, cyberbiosecurity will be introduced as an emerging and critical frontier where the intersection of biological research and digital technology exposes genomic data and laboratory systems to potential cyberattacks. By linking biosafety with cyber resilience, this study advocates a proactive approach to protecting public health, scientific integrity, and regional stability in an increasingly interconnected world.
