International Experiences in Avoiding Middle-Income Trap
摘要
The process of a country moving from poverty to prosperity is not a smooth journey once initiated. Since 1960, a total of 101 economies worldwide have entered the middle-income group, but only 13 have successfully advanced to the high-income group. The vast majority, however, have failed to smoothly complete the transition from middle-income to high-income status, with economic growth stagnating or even reversing midway through their catch-up due to various reasons. In many cases, it is not difficult for a country to achieve temporary high economic growth; what is rare is maintaining sustained and relatively rapid growth over a long period. Both the launch of industrialization and the successful experiences and failed lessons from crossing the “middle-income trap” are inherently consistent with the dual-pillar framework of political governance cohesion and economic accessibility in the A–C theory.
