Behavioral Analysis Techniques for Early Detection of Ransomware

The ransomware attack has become so sophisticated that it has caused unprecedented disruption and financial loss to many parts of the world. Traditional protection schemes mostly fail at detecting new variants, and early detection is very crucial to mitigate ransomware attacks. The paper surveys the role of behavior analysis techniques, which monitor all system and network behaviors for anomalies that indicate the presence of ransomware. These techniques record patterns, such as abnormal file encryption, network traffic, and privilege escalation, and are proactive in defense.
