This chapter examines how Romanian mainstream and social media constructed a “media emotionscape” of fear during the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and the 2024–2025 presidential elections. Through qualitative thematic content analysis of 30 news reports and viral posts, six recurring fear narratives were identified: (1) nuclear war outbreak, (2) Romania sending troops to Ukraine, (3) a Russian invasion of Romania, (4) mobilization of reservists, (5) forced deployment of Romanian youth, and (6) Romania’s imminent entry into the war. While the nuclear threat frame has persisted since 2022, the other narratives intensified during the electoral campaign, particularly on TikTok where they amplified collective anxiety. The findings reveal an ambivalent media environment in which alarmist and speculative reporting coexist with fact-checking and debunking efforts, enabling fear narratives to gain high visibility. This study argues that the concept of emotionscape helps explain how strategically framed war scenarios, amplified by algorithmic platforms, evolve into affective currents with tangible electoral consequences. These insights underscore the need for responsible journalism on emotion-instigating issues.

摘要
