Policy Landscape: A Global Perspective on Constructed Wetland
摘要
Constructed wetlands play an important part in the area of sustainable resource management and conservation of the environment. This chapter summarizes the policy landscape surrounding constructed wetlands, focusing on developed and developing nations. The introduction provides context by exploring the historical significance of wetlands and highlighting the importance of constructed wetlands in modern environmental policy frameworks. It underscores the need for robust policy development to address conservation and management challenges. A critical examination of international conventions, particularly the Ramsar Convention, offers insights into global efforts to protect wetland ecosystems. Findings and progress from these conventions help understand the development of policy and implementation. Further, the book chapter goes deeper into the diverse policy approaches adopted by developed nations such as the United States and European countries, showcasing leadership roles and recent policy additions. Moreover, it evaluates the policy frameworks of developing and underdeveloped nations, including India, China, Africa, and South America, while identifying areas for improvement and focus. The role of international agencies, notably the United Nations, in advancing constructed wetland policies is explored, emphasizing the significance of global collaboration for effective implementation. Challenges in policy execution and implementation, including those faced by nations and international agencies, are identified and analyzed. These challenges underscore the need for innovative approaches and enhanced cooperation. In conclusion, the chapter highlights the gaps that negatively impact the environment, emphasizes the integration of new technologies into policies, and advocates for future policy amendments to ensure sustainable management of constructed wetlands on a global scale.
