Curriculum Design in IPECP for Clinical Supervision

This chapter explores the role of structured clinical supervision in strengthening interprofessional education and collaborative practice (IPECP) within healthcare settings. Drawing on a narrative synthesis of 498 empirical studies across multiple disciplines, the chapter highlights the educational, organizational, and relational components essential for effective supervision. It introduces the integrative collaborative supervision (ICS) model, a theoretical framework that integrates experiential learning, reflective practice, and systems thinking to promote collaborative competencies. Thematic analysis reveals that well-designed curriculum—those that are longitudinal, reflective, and grounded in real-world clinical contexts—significantly improve role clarity, communication, and team-based decision-making. The chapter also outlines practical tools, such as the ICS Package, which includes pedagogical guidelines, learning-outcome blueprints, and performance rubrics to support implementation. A fictional case scenario from a Malaysian hospital illustrates real-world application, while discussions on barriers and enablers provide insights for sustainable integration. Ultimately, the chapter positions structured clinical supervision as a strategic tool not only for competency development but also for transforming healthcare culture toward safer, more collaborative, and patient-centered care.
