Before and After the Establishment of Materia Medica

The term “materia medica” was commonly used in ancient China to refer to the pharmacology of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It encompassed the names, properties, functions, indications, producing areas of various drugs, as well as knowledge about their collection, preservation, and processing. Essentially, materia medica in TCM covers all aspects of drug-related knowledge.
