Tourism is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world, with transport playing a pivotal role in its development. This study focuses on mega scale cultural events characterized by high infrastructure demand within a short span and seeks to discern the intricate relationships between transport connectivity, accessibility, and tourists’ satisfaction during mega cultural events. Specifically, it delves into the impact of transport connectivity and location-based accessibility on tourists’ satisfaction, a crucial factor in enhancing destination competitiveness. While there is a significant body of literature converging road and transport infrastructure and tourism development, and additionally, on tourism satisfaction, there is a dearth of research concerning the impact of transport connectivity and accessibility on tourists’ satisfaction during mega cultural events. This research follows a two-fold approach: a comprehensive literature review to identify key factors and an empirical investigation taking Durga Puja in Kolkata as a case study. The methodology comprises a descriptive analysis, followed by SEM-based partial least squares-path Modelling framework using AMOS to analyse the correlation between the factors and visitor satisfaction. The results indicate a significant positive impact of transport connectivity and node-based accessibility on visitor satisfaction. It also highlights that despite having a high impact on tourists’ satisfaction, node-based accessibility received lower scores from visitors, demonstrating the need to place greater emphasis. Among transport connectivity variables, road networks and public transport require importance, as these are found to have a greater effect on tourists’ satisfaction levels. This research aims to contribute towards informed decision-making related to strategic improvements in infrastructure and services for mega cultural events to enhance the visitor experience, thereby facilitating overall tourism development.

摘要
