Integrated Smart Water Management System for Conserving Crops

Groundwater depletion in India necessitates urgent water conservation measures. Rainwater harvesting, coupled with smart water management system, offers a sustainable solution by efficiently storing excess rainwater. This paper proposes an automated irrigation system to address the challenges faced by farmers due to inconsistent rainfall and limited resources. The system incorporates soil moisture sensors to monitor soil water content and the microcontroller to control water distribution. This approach surpasses traditional groundwater or canal-based by optimizing water usage and reducing labor, time, and costs. Soil moisture sensors can help to ensure that crops receive only the water they need, preventing overwatering and reducing water waste. Solenoid valves can be automated to open and close as needed, reducing the amount of time and labor required to manage irrigation. By providing crops with the right amount of water, soil moisture sensors can help to improve crop yields and quality. Solenoid valves can help to prevent waterlogging, which can damage crops and reduce yields. A water storage tank can help to store rainwater for use during dry periods, reducing the reliance on other water sources. This cost-effective IoT-based solution that is smart water management system offers a practical approach for Indian farmers to mitigate the impacts of climate change and ensure sustainable agricultural practices.
