Yutian and Shazhou
摘要
After Yutian was destroyed by Karakhanids in 1006, documents written in Khotanese, a medieval Iranian language used in the Yuchi Kingdom of Yutian, were completely buried in quicksand. What is worse, Chinese historical records of the Central Plains concerning the communication between Shazhou and Yutian in the tenth century were extremely limited. Relatively speaking, among the manuscripts in Chinese, Tibetan and Khotanese unearthed in the Library Cave, quite some are precious materials reflecting the history of exchange between Shazhou and Yutian in that period of time.
