In the Tubo court, there had been fighting between two religious faiths: Buddhism and the native faith of Bon. When Tsenpo Glandarma came to the throne, he launched a campaign against Buddhism under the instigation of some ministers who believed in Bon. In 842, he was assassinated by monks and this led to an internal disorder. The constant conflict between bLon Kongre, the suppression commissioner of Luomenchuan in Hexi and Longyou, and Zhang Bebe, the military commissioner of Shanzhou, resulted in a sharp decline in Tubo and subsequently its swift collapse.
