摘要

This chapter reviews sustainable pavement from the perspective of life-cycle transportation infrastructure development. It first outlines the environmental and societal challenges associated with conventional pavements, including flooding, pollution, heat accumulation, noise, emissions, and resource depletion, and then situates sustainable pavement within the broader framework of sustainable development. The chapter summarizes key approaches across the pavement life cycle, covering design, construction, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation. It further examines representative sustainable materials and structures, including recycled and industrial waste-based materials, rubberized asphalt, piezoelectric, cool, self-illuminating, snowmelt, photocatalytic, permeable, photovoltaic, nanomodified, bicycle, and smart pavements. Finally, it highlights future directions such as low-carbon materials, climate-resilient design, digitalized infrastructure, and intelligent pavement management, emphasizing that sustainable pavement should integrate engineering performance, environmental responsibility, and long-term social value.
