摘要

Asphalt and cement concrete pavements are designed to satisfy structural, functional, and durability requirements under traffic loading and environmental effects. This chapter introduces the layer composition, design indices, and checking methods for asphalt pavements, with emphasis on fatigue cracking, permanent deformation, subgrade strain, low-temperature cracking, and frost resistance. It also presents the structural configuration, slab thickness design, base arrangement, and analytical models for cement concrete pavements. In addition, the mechanistic–empirical (M–E) approach is outlined, including its hierarchical input system, environmental effects, traffic data requirements, and key material parameters. Together, these contents provide a systematic basis for modern pavement structural design.
