Kyasanur forest disease (KFD) is an emerging zoonotic disease in Southern India, especially in Western Ghats. The disease is an occupational hazard for the forest dwellers and hunters in these areas, as the transmission occurs through an endemic cycle where the hard ticks play an important role. The disease is expanding its geographical distribution into the surrounding states of India due to deforestation and other climatic factors.
