Influenza
摘要
Influenza is a highly infectious respiratory condition caused by influenza viruses, specifically types A, B, C, and D. Of these, influenza A viruses are particularly concerning due to their ability to cause pandemics and infect a diverse array of hosts, including humans, birds, and pigs. Bird flu, scientifically referred to as avian influenza, is a contagious respiratory illness triggered by influenza A viruses. These viruses are typically present in wild bird species but can also spread to domestic poultry and, on rare occasions, pose a threat to human health. Highly virulent strains, such as H5N1 and H7N9, present substantial public health threats due to their capacity to cause severe illness and high fatality rates. Swine influenza, which is an infection caused by influenza A viruses in pigs, can also spread to humans, as demonstrated by the H1N1 pandemic in 2009. Influenza viruses from birds and pigs have the ability to merge their genetic material, resulting in new strains that could lead to widespread outbreaks. Effective prevention and control strategies for influenza rely on robust surveillance, vaccination programs, and stringent biosecurity measures.
