The Shangshan Culture site cluster is distributed on piedmont terraces along the edges of valley basins and extends into the basin centers. Notably, although limestone karst shelters are well developed in the surrounding mountains of the Jinhua–Quzhou Basin, no contemporaneous cave sites have been found, nor any evidence of the expected seasonal mobility.
