This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of literary translation in contemporary Macao through quantitative and qualitative analyses. Based on the collected bibliohraphic data, it reveals exponential growth particularly from the 1980s onward, with poetry as the most translated genre. Statistical analyses show dramatic increases in Portuguese-to-Chinese translation during the handover period and subsequent expansion of Chinese-to-Portuguese and multilingual translation. The chapter examines participants including institutional patrons (Instituto Cultural de Macau, Macao Foundation) and professionals (translators, publishers, critics), arguing that literary translation as cultural production is motivated by socio-cultural conditions and governed by field structures, with institutional patronage playing a decisive role in mediating and constructing Macao's cultural identity.
